When you call to schedule your appointment you will be given a password to down load the forms from my website that you will need to begin the counseling process. Please print these forms, read them carefully, sign them and bring them to the first session. You must bring the signed paperwork to begin therapy. If you and your partner are coming together, you should each have your own set of paperwork.
Where To Park?
When you arrive, please park in the front or in the back of the office building in parking spaces identified as “Family Counseling.” Appointments are staggered to maintain your privacy. Upon entering the office, you will pay for your session at the reception desk before therapy begins.
The First Session
During the first session we will quickly review the Informed Consent paperwork that you brought with you to make sure you understand all of the information provided. Feel free to ask questions. Once the paperwork is reviewed we will be ready to begin.
The session will begin with me listening to your story. What brings you to therapy? What would you like to gain? What goals do you have? Are you in crisis? We will quickly be off and running. There is a lot of information to be collected during the first session, so I will manage the session to use our time wisely.
Therapy is Based on Trust
Therapy is based on trust and honest conversation. We will begin developing trust from our very first session. There is no need to feel judged or ashamed. Everything you tell me will remain 100% confidential. Please do not hold back important details. The more information you share with me, the better able I am to understand your situation and create an effective treatment plan for your growth and recovery. I will not discuss anything we talk about with another person without your signed consent.
Throughout the therapy process we will continue to build on your strengths. Together we will look at your progress and continually evaluate what is working well in therapy and where we need to make changes to enhance a successful outcome. Therapy is for you! This is your life!
During each session you will be challenged, you will work on new skills, and confront past issues, poor decisions, and inappropriate behaviors. Sometimes therapy is painful. Lots of tears will be shed as we say goodbye to past hurts and welcome new hopes and dreams into your life. Therapy does not come with a guarantee, however, the outlook is brighter when you commit to the difficult work and trust the process.
